Research

Today and hereafter…

As I came from civil/structural engineering, my scientific production and my background are pervaded by numerical analysis and applied math/physics. Nevertheless, my main field is modeling and simulation. Today I’m moving towards Innovation, Machine Learning (ML), Data-Driven Modelling (DDM), Data/Decision Science (DS).

Hence, my main research subjects today are:

  • Modeling and Simulation of Systems
  • Machine Learning + Data-Driven Modelling
  • (Generalized/Extended) Finite Element Methodologies
  • Innovation

My official and historical info

According to the Lattes Board of Research Groups in Brazil (Diretório Lattes dos Grupos de Pesquisa no Brasil, in Portuguese), I have been enrolled with the following research:

Research fields

  • Numerical Analysis
  • Software Engineering
  • Concrete Structures
  • Structural Mechanics
  • Solid Mechanics (Elasticity and Plasticity)

Research lines

  • Nonlinear Analysis
  • Computational Mechanics of Concrete
  • Concrete Structures Analysis
  • Fracture and Damage
  • (Generalized/Extended) Finite Element Methods

Official Research groups

Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (Federal University of Minas Gerais) – BR:

Lab/Software Projects

  • INSANE (Interactive Structural Analysis Environment) lab (…check out this crew!)

Snippets

Here I show quite basic extracts of my research. Find more info in my publications if you’d like.

  • Mesoestructure modelling

Emulation of particulate material morphology and stress analysis by (G/X)FEM.

  • Material nonlinear analysis

Use of elastic-degrading constitutive models (based on continuum damage mechanics) and GFEM to model quasi-brittle material behavior

  • Predictive modelling

Applying neural nets and linear models to predict elastic properties of concrete.
